This painting was inspired by a random find at a local antique store. I spied these beautifully crafted Dutch wooden shoes and was captivated by the elegant simplicity of the swirled pattern of the wood. In putting together the still life I followed the path to Holland. What's more Dutch than wooden shoes? Tulips and Droste Chocolate - all Dutch Masters. For this piece, I used a modified Grisaille technique. The painting was completed using only black, white and shades of gray. When completely dry, layers of color were added.
